Internship – Public Security & Organized Crime, Mexico

Job Description:

Emerging Markets Political Risk Analysis (EMPRA) is seeking an intern to assist our public security team with coverage of Mexico and Central America.

The intern will monitor and analyze developments related to security policy, regional trends, cross-border issues, organized crime dynamics, and emerging criminal markets. Research will be focused on understanding the effects of insecurity on political and economic stability. This position will contribute to EMPRA’s publications and will report to the Senior Public Security Analyst.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on a dynamic and intellectually-driven team that has pioneered risk analysis in Mexico since 2007.

 

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in or completed undergraduate studies in political science, applied statistics, economics, international relations or a related field
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely under tight deadlines
  • Fluent in English
  • Proficient in Spanish
  • Experience in managing databases and generating visualizations
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Mexican political and public security context
  • Ability to work both independently and on a team
  • Experience with R/Stata/similar programs is valued
  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and/or Illustrator/ Photoshop is a plus but not required
