ANALYST // SENIOR ANALYST, MEXICAN POLITICS – FULL-TIME

MEXICO CITY, MEXICO

Emerging Markets Political Risk Analysis (EMPRA) is looking for a Senior Analyst with expertise in the Mexican political system to join our team in Mexico City. The successful candidate’s day-to-day work will include conducting research, drafting daily reports, holding meetings with clients, and other tasks related to fulfilling our clients’ needs. The successful candidate will have a deep knowledge of Mexico’s political system, proven relationships and/or access to key stakeholders and a strong understanding of the inner workings of Morena.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft and oversee the contents for daily publications 
  • Participate in our research and analysis covering Mexican political developments at the local and national level
  • Conduct research across policy areas 
  • Write in-depth reports, identifying, assessing and forecasting political risks for EMPRA’s clients
  • Draft and deliver presentations on the dynamics of Morena and Mexican politics
  • Work with the research and operations teams to expand political and policy coverage of and to identify where value can be added to EMPRA’s research projects
  • Attend conferences and meetings with policy experts and decision-makers
  • Develop a continuously expanding database of contacts in the Mexican political arena
  • Contribute to other EMPRA projects and services when necessary 
  • Occasional travel may be necessary (once health conditions permit)
 

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in politics, political risk consulting, journalism, or a related area (experience will determine the level of the position)
  • Research experience covering Mexican politics and policy
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, or a related field (master’s degree  preferred, but not required). Applications from candidates with other academic backgrounds accepted, however experience must demonstrate a deep understanding of Mexico’s political system
  • Experience drafting and presenting presentations on complicated subjects
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (namely the capacity to draft and edit documents in English)
  • Strong communication skills (including the ability to meet with clients and deliver presentations)
  • Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with one or more econometrics programs
  • Ability to adapt to changing work requirements and adhere to deadlines is highly valued
  • Highly driven, organized and able to work independently with little guidance
  • Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • A high degree of professionalism and discretion is required.

Preferred Skills & Attributes:  

  • Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS coding
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Teams interface and Office 365 Environment
  • Subject-specific expertise in other areas 
  • Strong knowledge of other parts of Latin America and experience covering them

Note: EMPRA is currently working remotely. This will be a Mexico City based position once our offices reopen.  

 

 

Compensation:

Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
