RESEARCH ANALYST, PUBLIC SECURITY – GUADALAJARA AREA (PART-TIME)

Emerging Markets Political Risk Analysis (EMPRA) is seeking a public security intelligence researcher to join our public security team at Advanced Intelligence Solutions (AIS) and assist us in coverage of crime dynamics and security threats in Jalisco, Guadalajara (Mexico). 

Responsibilities will include constant monitoring and reporting on criminal activity and organized crime dynamics in the region, with an emphasis on the impact of crime and violence on private sector operations. This role will report to a project manager and the Director of Research.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Compile security incidents and analyze trends in Jalisco with a specific focus on the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area
  • Monitor organized crime and state and local responses and security strategies
  • Leverage crime statistics for trend monitoring and forecasting
  • Skillfully synthesize and translate data and information into written briefs, visually informative graphics, and professional presentations
  • Provide research assistance to project managers and AIS’s Director of Research
  • Conduct interviews and build a network of contacts to inform regional intelligence-building
  • Attend meetings, conferences, and interviews with high-level decision-makers and on-the-ground actors in fields related to public security
  • Prepare immediate flash reactions in response to major security incidents in the region

 

Requirements:

  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree in Political Science, Economics, Public Policy, Latin America Studies, International Relations, Journalism or any related field
  • A graduate degree in these fields is of extra value but not required
  • An outstanding aptitude for open source research and data collection
  • Experience in journalism is highly valued
  • Experience in the Guadalajara area is imperative
  • Fluency in Spanish 
  • Excellent writing skills 
  • Written fluency in English is strongly preferred, however, other applicants will be considered
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Availability to provide immediate information to clients in response to major security incidents 
  • Capacity to turn feedback into success 
  • Comfort in fast-paced and rapidly changing situations 
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience using a statistics programs (R, Stata, etc.) is a plus, but not required.
