SENIOR ANALYST, PUBLIC SECURITY (FT)

Emerging Markets Political Risk Analysis (EMPRA) is seeking a Senior Public Security Analyst to join our team at Advanced Intelligence Solutions (AIS). The Senior Analyst will be tasked with supervising and contributing to a series of weekly and monthly reports on public security in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, with a focus on the impact of crime, violence, and geopolitical instability on private sector operations in each region.

 

The Senior Analyst will also be expected to interact with EMPRA’s clients, providing direct public security consulting when required. This role will report to AIS’s management team and Director of Research, and will be responsible for managing a small team of junior analysts. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, track, and analyze trends related to security developments in countries throughout the region, with a primary focus on Mexico
  • Monitor organized crime and government security strategies
  • Compile crime data for trend monitoring and forecasting
  • Skillfully synthesize and translate data and information into written briefs, visually informative graphics, and professional presentations
  • Provide research assistance to AIS’s Director of Research in other areas when necessary
  • Leverage a network of contacts to inform research
  • Lead meetings, conferences, and interviews with high-level decision-makers and on-the-ground actors in fields related to public security
  • Discuss trends and findings with clients
  • Manage AIS’s team of junior analysts to ensure seamless publication development and completion on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis

 

Requirements:

  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree in Political Science, Economics, Public Policy, Latin America Studies, International Relations, Journalism or any related field
  • A graduate degree in any of these fields is of extra value but not required
  • At least three years of related work experience, with at least one year in a managerial position
  • An outstanding aptitude for research and data collection
  • Fluency in Spanish and English
  • High-level English-language writing and editing skills  
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Comfort in interfacing with high-level clients in presentations, meetings, consulting, etc. 
  • Capacity to turn feedback into success 
  • Comfort in a fast-paced work environment and availability to respond quickly to unforeseen developments
  • Ability to lead a team and meet strict deadlines
  • Experience using a statistics programs (R, Stata, etc.) and manipulating data is a plus
  • Availability to travel as needed
